Malcom Maiu’u Floyd of the San Diego Chargers had been on island since last Thursday with his mother Leataata Amisone Floyd, visiting his Mom’s island that she ‘is so proud of.’ It’s his first time on island.

Floyd had been with the Chargers for 10 years as a wide receiver, but spent most of last season recovering from a neck injury sustained during the second game of the season.

Of his injury recovery, Floyd said, “It's not quite there yet, but it's getting there.” He noted, “There’s really no timetable. It’s pretty much just basing it on how I am and how well I feel… There’s still a little discomfort in there, but it’s a lot better. ... I’m getting there. It just felt good to start running again and becoming more active. I’m feeling a lot better as far as that goes.”

Floyd is thrilled with the territory and especially the friendliness of the people. He’s been making the high school rounds, and was at Fagaitua High School yesterday to meet with Head Coach Sua’ese “Pooch” Taase and some of the Vikings football team’s best receivers to share some ideas on ball catching and running tactics.
