Chargers beat Buccaneers in action packed AYFS opening day game

At the opening of the AYFS Football League this past Saturday at Veterans Memorial Stadium in Tafuna, the Buccaneers and the Chargers saw hard hitting action in the third game of opening day.

Keiki Misipeka of the Chargers led his team with over 200 yards rushing and a kick return as the Chargers beat the Buccaneers with a score of 34-22 in the hard hitting game in front of a packed house of flag waiving, screaming fans of the AYFS.

Misipeka first took the ball into the end-zone only two minutes into the game on a 30-yard run. He then ran two more long runs in the 2nd quarter, one for 40 yards and another for 60 yards to end the first half. He finished the day off with a 60-yard touchdown run with just under two minutes left in the game.

Misipeka also had a 700yard kickoff return to start the 2nd half. He finished the day with a total of 260 yards on the ground and all five touchdowns for the Chargers.

Despite a good performance from the Buccaneers on the ground that saw Nofoa ‘JR’ Fagaima with over 100 yards on two kickoff returns that resulted in touchdowns and a 25-yard touchdown run by Terry Letuli Jr., the Buccaneers came up short to start the season off at 0-1.

Samoa News spoke with the head coach of the Chargers Fa’auuga Laititi on his win at  start of the AYFS season. “I want to thank the Lord for giving us this great day for the kids to have fun. The kids came out and played well. I want to thank the parents and supporters for coming out today. I also want to thank the Buccaneers for giving us a great game today. They played hard and well and I thank them for that,” he said.

The Chargers had support sent to them via email to Samoa News from a fan and former player in Las Vegas. “Good job Chargers. Keep up the great work. I love you Coach Laititi, Coach Cyrus and Coach Faraimo,”  said Treamaine Alexsander Savea.
