Boys Varsity Volleyball will hold both playoff games today

The American Samoa High School Athletic Association (ASHSAA) Boys Varsity Volleyball League will be having their two playoff games today, with the #1 seeded Tafuna Warriors facing the #4 seeded team of the Leone Lions, with the game being played at Tafuna High School. The other playoff game will have the #2 seeded Faga’itua Vikings take on the #3 seeded Nu’uuli Voc-Tech Wildcats, who are last season’s champions, and that game will be  at Faga’itua High School.

In the last regular season games this past Monday, the Tafuna Warriors not only travelled to Samoana High School to take on the Sharks, they defeated the Sharks both in Junior Varsity and Varsity action.

In the first set of the Junior Varsity game, the Warriors walked away victors, 25-14 and 25-17. In the Varsity game, the Warriors were victorious once again, by downing the Sharks in two sets, 25-19 and 25-14. In the other game this past Monday, the boys from the East Side, the Vikings made that long trip to Kanana Fou, the Home of the Stallions.

Fortunately for the #2 seeded Vikings, they were able to take both the Junior Varsity and Varsity games. In the Junior Varsity game, the Vikings squeaked out victory’s of 25-22 and 25-23 for the match. The Vikings Varsity team also won in two sets, 25-16 and 25-21.

In today’s Varsity playoffs, the Warriors who have been the favorite all season long to take the ASHSAA Boys Varsity Volleyball Championship title away from the defending champions the Nu’uli Voc-Tech Wildcats, will be playing in front of their home crowd at Tafuna High School, as they take on the Lions. The only loss on the Warriors record came late in the season, when they were defeated by the #2 seeded Vikings. In the other playoff game at Faga’iuta High School, the Vikings who made a late season surge to the playoffs, will be taking on the defending champion Wildcats, in what should be a classic match up, as both of these teams come into the playoffs with a 7 win and 3 loss record. Both of these games have a scheduled starting time of 4:30 p.m.

ASHSAA Boys Volleyball Coordinator Tumua Matu’u invites the public out to both of these games in support of ASHSAA sports. The Varsity Championship game will be this coming Friday and will be played at the highest seeded team’s court. In the Junior Varsity Division, there are no playoffs. The champion is determined by the most wins.
