Boys ASHSAA soccer first round ends

The first round of the 2012-2013 ASHSAA Boys soccer season is at an end with Samoana leading handily in the varsity division while there is a close race in the J-V bracket.

The second round kicks off on April 22 after its start on April 16 (Faga’itua Vikings vs. Fa’asao-Marist Crusaders) was postponed due to bad weather experienced on that day.

The Tafuna Warriors take on the Samoana Sharks on April 22 to kick off the second round as all five teams in both divisions are on the home stretch for the season’s end.

VARSITY

Samoana, last year’s winners, are in the lead with a perfect 4-0 record  for 12 points, leading by five over Faga’itua (2-1-1) who have 7.

In third are the Crusaders (2-0-2) with 6 points, followed by Tafuna (1-0-3) for 3 points and finally Nu’uuli Voc-Tech Wildcats (0-1-3) at fith place with 1 point.

The team with the most points and Samoana’s magic number to clinch back-to-back titles is three — all the Sharks have to do is win three out of their four games to claim the season’s championship.

JUNIOR VARSITY

Only 10 goals separate Samoana and Fa’asao-Marist in the first tiebreaker, goals difference (28-18).

Both teams are tied with 10 points each with similar records of 3-1.

Samoana' jumped ahead of the Crusaders in the standings after a 22-0 win over the Wildcats on April 10.  Days later Fa’asao-Marist managed a 9-0 win against the same opponent to close to within 10 goals of the tiebreaker.

They face one another on April 23 and this game could settle the title before the season is scheduled to end on May 2, 2013.
