Blitzbokke go big in Japan

The Springbok Sevens team produced an exceptional display of pace to rally back from 12-0 down to beat HSBC World Series champions New Zealand 24-19 in the final of the Tokyo Sevens on Sunday.It was a massive turnaround for the Blitzbokke, who endured a poor Hong Kong Sevens a week earlier, but dug deep to find the resolve to lift themselves and win the tournament.They came back from the setback of losing their first game in Tokyo – going down 29-12 to Hong Kong champs Fiji – before heading to the Cup knockout stages and dispatching of Samoa and France on day two before heading to the final.The win was the second consecutive victory over the All Blacks – the last coming two tournaments back in Las Vegas when the Blitzbokke won the final in style - ironically also a week after they couldn’t make the Cup quarterfinals in Wellington, New Zealand.The victory was sweet for coach Paul Treu, who has been under immense pressure this year, and lifts the Blitzbokke to second place in the HSBC World Series standings, although the 36-point lead that New Zealand now has, will probably be too much to be hauled in with only two tournaments left in this season’s Series.HSBC Sevens World Series Japan | RESULTSMarch 201331 New Zealand 19 - 24 South Africa 31 Australia 31 - 7 France 31 USA 17 - 0 Scotland 31 Argentina 0 - 38 England 31 Canada 27 - 14 Japan 31 South Africa 14 - 12 France 31 Australia 17 - 35 New Zealand 31 Samoa 17 - 21 Scotland 31 Fiji 19 - 21 USA 31 England 21 - 19 Wales 31 Argentina 12 - 10 Kenya 31 Portugal 15 - 19 Japan 31 Spain 0 - 38 Canada 31 Scotland 10 - 14 France 31 Samoa 12 - 19 South Africa 31 New Zealand 19 - 12 USA 31 Fiji 12 - 21 Australia 31 Wales 22 - 14 Japan P31 England 40 - 0 Portugal 31 Canada 5 - 17 Kenya 31 Spain 0 - 14 Argentina 30 New Zealand 22 - 12 Canada 30 Japan 7 - 24 France 30 Wales 33 - 15 Kenya 30 USA 12 - 12 Scotland 30 Fiji 34 - 7 Portugal 30 South Africa 42 - 7 Spain 30 Australia 14 - 26 Samoa 30 England 31 - 7 Argentina 30 Canada 22 - 19 France 30 Japan 5 - 41 New Zealand 30 Kenya 21 - 10 USA 30 Wales 10 - 12 Scotland 30 Portugal 0 - 12 South Africa 30 Fiji 17 - 5 Spain 30 Samoa 31 - 21 England 30 Australia 31 - 0 Argentina 30 Japan 14 - 10 Canada 30 New Zealand 26 - 7 France 30 Kenya 0 - 12 Scotland 30 Wales 22 - 24 USA 30 Portugal 14 - 17 Spain P30 Fiji 29 - 12 South Africa 30 Samoa 17 - 14 Argentina 30 Australia 26 - 19 England
