AYFS – 49ers remain the only undefeated team in the league

This past Saturday marked the 5th week of the 2016 American Youth Football of Samoa (AYFS) season, and only head coach Loso I'aulualo and his 49ers team remain undefeated in the league – after a meeting with the Bears, the reigning AYFS Champs that recorded their first loss of the season by a two point margin 24 - 22 against the Niners.

Overall – all three scheduled match ups last Saturday were exciting games. There were no lopsided wins or losses, nor a shut-out as all three matches were up for grabs and the win was awarded to the teams who wanted it the most and performed with the least mistakes on the field.

CHARGERS 6 – BUCCANEERS 16

The opening match for the 2016 AYFS Football week 5 was between the AYFS Buccaneers and the AYFS Chargers. The Chargers who still have yet to record a win in this season, lost again to the Buccs – but it didn't quite start off like that, as the Buccs suffered in the opening half of the game.

The Chargers who were rumored to get whipped by the Buccs surprisingly shined during the opening quarter of the game, when the Buccaneers encountered some problems on offense – when they fumbled the ball inside their own end zone, and it was recovered by the Chargers defensive unit to score the first six points of the game.

Heading into halftime, the Chargers were leading 6 - 0 – then suddenly in the second half of play, the Buccaneers showed much improvement on both sides of the ball. The Buccs defensive unit shut down the Chargers throughout the third and fourth quarters, as they progressed viciously on offense to come back and win the game 16 - 6.

49ERS 24 – BEARS 22

The second match of the day was actually the main event that everyone had been waiting to watch – the battle between the two undefeated teams in the league, the reigning AYFS Champions Bears and the 49ers.

The Niners opened up the first quarter of play with the opening touchdown of the game in the hands of Koison Ozu, who is currently the leading rusher in the league.

Not too long after that the Bears answered with their first six points of the match, as they made a statement with their no huddle offensive running game – not to mention, their defensive unit led by Masaichi Aviu managed to stop most of the Niners running plays to Ozu, who is one of the most explosive backs in the league this year.

It was a tug-of-war match between these two undefeated teams, as they both managed to answer each other's six point conversions – nevertheless, the clock wasn't in favor of the Bears, as they suffered a two point loss against the 49ers 24 - 22, their first loss this season.

RAIDERS 6 – STEELERS 8

The closing match of week 5 was thought to be a boring one, as it was rumored the Steelers would walk all over the Raiders given their performance caliber and touchdown stats since the opening of this year’s AYFS season.

Unfortunately for the rumors, the Raiders proved them wrong when they showed on the field that they too came to play – Raiders scored the opening touchdown of the game and they almost shut out the Steelers throughout the whole first half of the game.

Luckily for the Steelers, their head coach and offensive coordinator Shawn Togia had a lot of tricks up his sleeve and he managed to adjust his offensive unit to not only a stunning comeback – but scoring the two extra points that made the difference in this one, closing off week 5 with their third win of the season 8 - 6.
