ASG employees to receive payroll increments in January

Gov. Togiola Tulafono said government's revenue collection improved slightly, for the current fiscal year, making it possible to pay some debts, including ASG's payroll increments which he said are budgeted every fiscal year, including for FY 2012.After speaking with ASG Treasurer Magalei Logovi'i about the increment payments, which have not been made for four years due to the government's financial constraints, Togiola says he authorized the Treasury Department to pay increments to executive branch employees in January.Togiola said ASG's employees are deserving of this pay as they were greatly affected earlier this year with the reduction of working hours. It's unclear how much is to be expended on this increment and Magalei did not immediately reply to Samoa News e-mail questions on Wednesday.Meanwhile, Sen. Velega Savali asked, during a Senate hearing on Wednesday, where the money to pay the increments is coming from, while the government still owes $7.2 million to the American Samoa Power Authority (ASPA) in outstanding utility debts.
