ASBA Little League Fall Competition concludes Fall Competition

The American Samoa Baseball Association (ASBA) Little League Fall Competition just concluded with its Fall Competition by having an East versus West All-Star game this past Saturday in the Major League and Minor League Divisions at the Tony Solaita Baseball Field.

“The Fall season ran for close to ten weeks with about 200 kids playing. This is the first time we ran little league baseball in another part of the year other than in the Summer time. There was a total of five clubs, with a Minor League (7-9 year olds) and a Major League (10-12 year olds) with five teams in the Minor League Division and seven in the Major League Division,” said President of ASBA J. Victor Langkilde.

“It was a successful season in partnership with the Department of Parks and Recreation, with a special thank you going out to Director Samana Semo Ve’ave’a. Over the four years that we have been in partnership with the Parks and Recreation they have given us total support and access to the field.

“The ASBA hopes that with the incoming administration we will have the same relationship and partnership as well, as we try to push forward our youth programs such as this , trying to help our youth become successful in society as they work towards a successful future,” he concluded.

The All-Star games on Saturday began with the Minor League as the Western All-Star team was able to come from behind to defeat the Eastern All-Stars by a score of 8-7.

In the Major League All-Star game, the Eastern All-Stars shut out the Western All-Stars 4-0 despite a strong pitching effort by the Western All-Star left hander Otto Tautua from the Leone A’s who struck out 11 Eastern All-Star batters.

Phil Apelu from the Tafuna Cubs was able to hit a solo home run for the Eastern team in the top of the 2nd inning to help lead his Eastern All-Star team to victory.
