ASAA aids Boy Scouts with swim badges

Boy Scout Troop 282 from the Mapusaga Fou Ward, concluded lessons for their Merit Badges in swimming Saturday at the Utulei Beach Park, where they received swimming lessons since Friday, conducted by the American Samoa Aquatics Agency.

Troop 282 was taught the basics of proper swimming and five different types of life jackets, how to use clothing as floating devices among other things concerning swimming and water safety in earning their Swimming Merit Badges.

The Boy Scouts of America website says there are 128 Merit Badges that a Boy Scout can earn, in different subjects such as climbing, athletics, bird study, cooking, archery, law, personal fitness, photography and 120 other Merit Badges Boy Scouts of America can earn, with each Scout being eligible regardless of rank.

 The American Samoa Aquatics Agency will also be conducting a free, ‘Introduction to Swimming and Water Safety’ class tomorrow at Utulei Beach Park from 9:00 a.m.-11:00 a.m. for anyone eight years old and over that is open to the public.
