Apia and Matautu curfew declared during youth reconciliation

An 11pm to 6am curfew has been declared for residents in certain parts of Apia and Matautu.  And youths are no longer allowed to drink on seawalls and harass people who were out for the night. These decisions, in effect on Monday, are the outcome of a reconciliation of youths of Apia and Matautu that took place last week, months after a violent riot on the Vaisigano Bridge, near Aggie Greys Hotel.

Both villages have also agreed to meet every four months to discuss the progress in their partnership. The two groups after a night out in July, stoned each other from each end of the bridge.  The riot damaged a taxi and property nearby including the stained glass windows of the Apia Protestant Church.  Families in the area fled with their children to nearby suburbs as the violence escalated.
