ANZ to discontinue mobile banking branch

ANZ Amerika Samoa Bank, the local subsidiary of ANZ Guam Inc., last month informed its customers it will discontinue its mobile banking branch effective Oct. 15, 2012 and this followed “a study of our customer’s branch use, as well as their product and service needs”.

This information was outlined in a letter from the bank’s boss, Terese Salumbides,  who pointed out that ANZ two branches - Fagatogo and Tafuna - will remain open for business under regular business hours, Monday to Friday 9am to 4pm.  ANZ also has ATMs available 24-hours for its customers.

“We apologize for the inconvenience this change may cause you and we will do all that we can to make sure the transition as easy as possible for you,” wrote Salumbides.

The bank on April 3, 2006 expanded its banking service with the launch of two mobile banking trailers stationed at specified locations on island. The mobile banks were available for individual customers only and handled check cashing, deposits, wire transfers, foreign currency exchanges, and loan payments.

This service, that ANZ described as “banking the un-banked concept”, came after it was first launched in Fiji. It was to make it easy for local customers to get their banking done, if they were unable to get to the main branches. The local service targeted the cannery workers, which at that time numbered over 5,000.
