Absence of Faleomavaega raises questions in Senate

Senator Galea’i Tu’ufuli has questioned the whereabouts of Congressman Faleomavaega Eni Hunkin, as it's reported that he’s missing from recent important meetings where American Samoa should have had a representative. The issue was raised during the Senate regular session last week Friday.

Galea’i appealed to Senate President Gaoteote Tofau Palaie to speak directly to government leaders as to why American Samoa was not represented in the recent meetings. He also pointed out that recently the congressman’s office issued a statement that Eni has returned to the office after being admitted to the hospital.

(He did not specify what the ‘recent meetings’ were.)

Earlier this month, the Congressman’s officer issued a statement to the media that following rehabilitation and recuperation Eni had returned to work, however there were no details of his illness. Eni was medevaced last October to Triple Army Medical Center in Honolulu for further evaluation after he was hospitalized at the LBJ hospital for three days.

A majority of the public responding to an unscientific poll on our website, www.samoanews.com appear to not be concerned with the lack of information regarding the congressman's whereabouts and his condition.  56% of people answering the poll say they think the congressman and his family have every right to their privacy and his condition and aliment  is not anyone else's business, while 44% disagree and think news of his condition is our right since he is our elected representative in Washington, D.C.
