E so'o le fau i le fau - we have strength in unity

Special from Iraq
by Easter Bruce

Since Samoa News won't be publishing Good Friday and the Saturday before Easter, Tala Mai Tafa o Taua will resume its regular weekly issue on Friday, 28 March 08.

However, I would like to take this opportunity to extend my sincerest gratitude for the many emails of appreciation and encouragement for the column received in support of your Samoan service members serving in this part of the world.

To the spouses and families supporting from the rear - thank you for your continued dedication in keeping the household together, raising the children as a temporary single parent, managing the finances and especially if you are also working or pursuing educational goals. I have walked in those same shoes and fully understand the challenges and even frustrations you will encounter. Within your reach you have your local Samoan church, the Family Support Group (FSG)/Family Readiness Group (FRG) and Army Community Services center. For our sister services, simply seek your equivalent of these organizations.

During difficult times of deployments and family separations, I recall a fitting Samoan proverb that reminds us as Samoans that there is tremendous strength in unity: "E so'o le fau i le fau." No matter the distance or time we spend apart from our families, we seem to draw amazing strength and will to continue during these difficult times until that joyous time of reuniting with family.

Please join me in the next two issues where the back-to-back Toa o Samoa highlights will shine the light on the villages of Faga'alu and Lauli'i Tuai, Tutuila and from Olosega and Ofu of Manu'a.

God bless the United States of America and our island nations, American Samoa and Samoa.

Ia manuia lava - soifua!

Easter
