TAYLOR JESSOP RECEIVES APPOINTMENT TO THE US AIR FORCE ACADEMY

Washington D.C. – Congresswoman Aumua Amata has personally called and congratulated Taylor’s parents on their daughter’s outstanding achievement. The Air Force Academy notified Congresswoman Aumua Amata’s office on Jan. 29, 2015 that they are extending an Offer of Appointment to the United States Air Force Academy to Miss Taylor Va’alele Jessop to be a member of the Class of 2019.

The office of National Veterans Sports Programs and Special Events has recently approved an application for funding under the Grants for Adaptive Sports Program for Disabled Veterans and Disabled Members of the Armed Forces Program in the amount of $50,000 for the local American Samoa National Olympic Committee.
 



Cpt. Saipale Vaouli named to command Forward Support Company

American Samoa native Cpt. Saipale Vaouli is the new commander of the Forward Support Company, 411th Engineer Battalion of the local U.S. Army Reserve, following a ‘change-of-command’ ceremony held last Sunday at the Army Reserve center in Tafuna.
 
The 32-year old Vaouli, along with Lt. Col. Dragomir Marinkovich, Commander, 411th Engineer Battalion and Maj. Ekkehard Stiller, Executive Officer, 411th Engineer Battalion attended Monday’s opening of the 34th Legislature at the Fono Guest Fale.

Citizen-Soldiers provide USARPAC with capabilities

A typical day in the U.S. Army Reserve starts and ends within the broad geographic footprint of the “Pride of the Pacific,” with the sun rising in Saipan and setting in American Samoa.
 
The 9th Mission Support Command is the only Army Reserve command assigned directly to an Army Service Combatant Command, U.S. Army-Pacific.
 



Toa o Samoa deploy to Med & Middle East

Toa-o-Samoa sailors preparing to man the rails on board USS Fort Mchenry, FSD 43 as they leave homeport in Mayport, Florida. USS LSD 43 Fort. McHenry, an amphibious dock landing ship is part of Amphibious Ready Group (USS Iwo Jima, USS New York & USS Fort McHenry).

 

The group left Mayport, Florida this month (Dec) deploying for 7 months to the Mediterranean and Middle East.

Master Sgt. Tevesi Fata retires

Tevesi Fata, of Avaio, American Samoa (center) recently retired from the U.S. Army as a Master Sargent. Pictured here surrounded by his proud family, are his wife, Margie, his sons Trevir and Tyler, and daughters Miracle and Mariana.
 
Master Sgt. Fata was born and raised in American Samoa and now resides in Hinesville, Georgia.

Before retiring, Fata served over ten years in the Middle East. He has received numerous medals and commendations, including a Bronze Medal and medals for Meritorious Service.
