In yesterday’s makeup games in the American Samoa High School Athletic Association (ASHSAA) Girls Softball League, the Fa’asao Marist Cougars were able to defeat the ‘surging’ Samoana Sharks in a convincing win by a score of 18-4.

The loss by the Sharks put them in the same spot as the Nu’uuli Voc-Tech Wildcats, who are both battling it out for the 4th spot for the upcoming playoffs this coming Saturday, which will have the top four teams playing one another leaving the bottom two teams out. The good news for the Wildcats, they are only one game behind the Sharks in the standings and will meet them tomorrow, the last regular season game.

Even if the Wildcats dropped yesterday’s game against the Tafuna Warriors (Samoa News was not able to retrieve the score as of press time), they still have a chance tomorrow when they meet the Sharks. The Wildcats still have a chance for the #4 spot, because of their win on Monday during the makeup game against the Faga’itua Vikings, where they defeated them by a score of 18-14, putting them one game behind the Sharks.

The Cougars were one game up on the ‘slumping’ Leone Lions going into yesterday’s game against one another. Samoa News was not able to retrieve the score of this game as of press time. At that time, the Cougars were the #2 seeded team, overtaking the Lions this second half of the season, dropping the Lions down to #3. Whichever one of these teams goes into Saturday’s playoffs at #2 or #3, they will still meet one another in a game that should be a classic barn burner.

Even though the Vikings have not won a single game all season, they have been in some close contests and still have a chance to finish out the season with one win in the win column, as they face the Warriors tomorrow.

The Vikings going against the Warriors and the Sharks battling it out with Wildcats, have a scheduled starting time of 4:00 p.m. and will be played at the Tony Solaita Baseball Field. The playoff games on Saturday will have the #1 seeded team going against the #4 seeded team with a scheduled start of 8:00 a.m., with the #2 seeded team facing the #3 seeded teams immediately following.

All games are played at the Tony Solaita Baseball Field. The Championship Game day is set for next Tuesday October 3, with a scheduled starting time of 4:00 p.m. at the Solaita Field.

ASHSAA Girls Softball coordinator Clayton ‘Boom’ Mahuka invites the public out to the rest of the regular season games, the playoffs and the championship game in support of ASHSAA sports.
