Nu'uuli Wildcats down Faga’itua Vikings in Softball League
The Nu’uuli Voc-Tech Wildcats have finally made a mark in the win column, as they were able to down the Faga’itua Vikings, 17-16, in the American Samoa High School Athletic Association Girls Softball League action this past Thursday. They came into the game, the only two teams without any wins and at the bottom of the pack.
With only one week left in the regular season, neither team wanted to go into this last week of the regular season without any wins. The Wildcats had a chance to win their first game this past Wednesday when they played the Fa’asao Marist Cougars in a makeup game, but were denied the win, defeated by a score of 24-2.
In the highly anticipated game on Thursday between the Tafuna Warriors and the Leone Lions, who are currently the top two teams since the beginning of the season. The Lions took the lead at the start the game, but the high powered team of the Warriors did not stay down for long as they came back and overtook the Lions, never looking back as they cruised to an easy victory, 16-6.
This was the second loss for the Lions this season and both were at the hands of the Warriors. The only loss the Warriors had was against the Cougars.
With the playoffs set for September 29, the #1 seeded team will be playing the #4 seeded team and the #2 seeded team will be playing #3.
The Lions are seeded at #2 at this time with the Cougars at #3. The Lions have 2 games left to play before the playoffs, with their next game being against the Samoana Sharks and their last one against the Cougars. If they can pull off both of these wins, they will stay at the #2 seeded spot and will most likely play the Cougars who will probably go into the playoffs still seeded at #3, with the Sharks at #4.
But you still cannot count out the Wildcats who are still in play for the playoffs, with an easier remaining schedule left in the regular season than the Sharks.
The Warriors have two games left in the regular season and they are against the Wildcats and Vikings and by the way the Warriors have been playing, they will go into the playoffs seeded #1, with the rest of the teams battling for the remaining seeds.
In today’s match ups, the Cougars will face the Vikings at 8am. Immediately following that game, the Sharks will face the Lions. All games are played at the Tony Solaita Baseball Field.
