UPDATE: Candidates certified
Just before 9a.m. today (Thursday), Chief Election Officer Soliai Tuipine Fuimaono issued a public notice that he has certified candidates for the offices of the governor and the lieutenant governor in the Nov. 6 general election.
Certification followed yesterday’s Appellate court decision, which dismiss a petition by the gubernatorial team of Save Liuato Tuitele and Sandra King Young, who appealed a decision by the chief election officer denying their challenge of the eligibility of four other candidates in the gubernatorial race.
The following is how the actual list of the certified candidates will appear on the ballot - according to the Election Office:
GOVERNOR AND LIEUTENANT GOVERNOR
1. Afoa L. S. Lutu/Le'i S. Thompson
2. Faoa Aitofele T. F. Sunia / Taufete'e John Faumuina
3. Lolo Matalasi Moliga / Lemanu Sialega Peleti Mauga
4. Salu Hunkin-Finau / Utuali'i luniasolua Tului Savusa
5. Save Liuato A. Tuitele / Sandra King Young
6. Tim Jones / Tuika Tuika
Candidates are given until 12noon today to view sample ballots before its goes to print where it will be available an hour later for local absentee voting - for individuals who reside in the territory permanently but will not be on island on election day.
Because tonight is the Hawaiian Airlines flight to Honolulu, the Election Office moved to get absentee electors casting their ballots and the office will open until 9p.m. for local absentee voting.
