Hearings for Fuiava and Ripley set for next month

The government’s cases against former Deputy Commissioner of the Department of Public Safety, Filifa’atali Mike Fuiava and former OMV Manager, Marie Ripley are scheduled for October 11, 2012.

The hearing is for a dismissal motion filed in August of last year by Sharron Rancourt who is representing Fuiava. During the pre-trial conference yesterday, David Vargas, who represents Mrs. Ripley also filed a motion to join Rancourt’s move to dismiss the matter.

Independent Prosecutor Marcellus Talaimalo Uiagalelei asked the court for three weeks to file a response given that it’s unclear if former IP Fa’amomoi Masaniai responded to this motion.

He added that the files in his possession do not have a response in this matter. Richmond granted the request for a continuance and scheduled the hearing for next month.
