ASPA’S veteran employee and solid waste manger passes away
American Samoa Power Authority is mourning the loss of one of its management team member, Afonotele Petelo Lafele, who served as Solid Waste Division manager for a couple of years.
During ASPA fiscal year 2013 budget hearing this week, chief executive officer Andra Samoa shared with lawmakers that Afonotele passed away Sunday morning but she didn’t elaborate further on the cause of death.
She said Afonotele has been on the forefront in finding ways to assist the public in reducing their electric bills and has worked front and center in addressing public concern over ASPA’s service.
She said it was the wish of God, who called on Afonotele, adding that Afonotele has been working on his presentation to the Fono during budget hearings regarding some of the programs to help the community reduce cost of their electricity. She said Afonotele is a veteran of ASPA employee and he will be greatly missed.
One of the project Afonotele helped launched for the authority is the Recycling for Food Program, which commenced in July around the time of the Farm Fair.
In a news release in July, ASPA says the “Recycling for Food” initiative calls for the depositing of recyclable materials to the ASPA Tafuna compound in exchange for coupons that can be redeemed on any local produce from the participating farmers at the Farm Fair.
