Six gubernatorial teams, 5 delegate candidates file
Six teams for the gubernatorial race and five candidates for the U.S. House of Representatives race have filed election papers for the November 6th general election in American Samoa.
It was 4:30p.m. Saturday when registration of candidates closed with the final list of registered candidates released around 1a.m. Sunday.
Chief Election Officer, Soliai Tuipine says the final day of registration went smoothly although a lot of candidates in the territorial House race showed on the final day of registration.
All six gubernatorial teams, who have already made public their intent to run for office, filed the necessary paperwork. Candidates for the office of governor and lieutenant governor are:
• Afoa L. S. Lutu and Le'i S. Thompson
• Faoa Aitofele T. F. Sunia and Taufete'e John Faumuina
• Lolo Matalasi Moliga and Lemanu Sialega Peleti Mauga
• Salu Hunkin-Finau and Utuali'i luniasolua Savusa
• Save Liuato A. Tuitele and Sandra King Young
• Timothy David Jones and Tuika Tuika Jr.
In the race for Delegate to the U.S. House of Representatives there are three female candidates: Aumua Amata, Rosie Tago Lancaster and Fatumalala Leulua'iali'i Al-Shehri. The male candidates are incumbent Faleomavaega Eni, hoping for a 13th consecutive term and Kereti Matautia Jr.
