The American Samoa High School Athletic Association (ASHSAA) sports season continues as the Spring lineup of sports has begun, including Girls Varsity and Junior Varsity Basketball and Boys and Girls Baseball.

To begin the Spring sports season, the Junior Varsity Girls Basketball Division took to the courts last Saturday when the Tafuna Warriors pummeled the Samoana Sharks by a score of 19-1. Game Two had the Faga’itua Vikings defeating the Leone Lions 27-15. In the third and final game of the day, the Warriors lost in their second game, this time to the Fa’asao Marist Cougars by a score of 23-22.

The next set of Girls Junior Varsity games — which are only played on Saturdays, will be this coming Saturday at Samoana High School with a scheduled starting time of 8:00 a.m. for the first game with the second to immediately follow.

The three games will pit the Sharks versus the Lions, Vikings versus the Warriors and the Sharks against the Cougars to close out the day.

The Girls Varsity Basketball Division had their season begin this past Monday with the Vikings traveling to Samoana to take on the Sharks. Unfortunately for the Vikings, they were not able to keep up with the up-tempo style and the outside shooting of the Sharks.

The final score of this one was Sharks 35- Vikings 15.

In the other game on opening day of the Varsity Division, the defending champion Warriors hosted the Lions. The Warriors picked up right where they left off last season as they downed the Lions 35-25 last Saturday.

The next Varsity games will occur today, as the Cougars host the Vikings at the Malaeloa gymnasium and the Nu’uuli VocTech Wildcats will play the South Pacific Academy Dolphins at a location yet to be determined. These game have a scheduled starting time of 4:30 p.m.

In other ASHSAA sporting news, baseball season began last Saturday with the defending champion Fa’asao Marist Crusaders taking to the field first with a game against the Warriors on opening day. The Crusaders started the season off right, as they were able to get by the Warriors and cruise to a 6-2 victory.

In game two, the Sharks held off the Vikings en-route to a victory by a score of 8-5. Game three had the Warriors playing their second game, and they were able come out on top of this one when they downed the Leone Lions by one run: 6-5.

This year’s ASHSAA baseball games are played on Saturday’s at the Tony Solaita Baseball Field with three games scheduled each Saturday starting at 8:00 a.m.

This coming Saturday, baseball action will have the Marist Crusaders playing the Fagaitua Vikings, the Warriors versus the Sharks, and finally, the Crusaders will go up against the Lions.

ASHSAA invites the public out to all of these games in support of our athletes. Schedules are subject to change without notice.
