Talavalu off to Apia for Marist 7s

The American Samoa Talavalu training squad left yesterday to compete in the 26th Vailima Marist International 7s in Apia on the 21st & 22nd of this month as part of their training regiment in preparation for the HSBC Hong Kong world series next month.
The training squad which will be playing under the club name TATOORS (Tutuila, Aunu'u, Tau, Ofu, Olosega, Rose Island, Swains) will then select 7 players to travel to Canberra, Australia to participate in the Oceania 7's academy at the Australian Institute of Sports,  Feb. 24- 27th. Participation in such an elite academy was by an invitation extended and funded by the IRB when American Samoa qualified for the Hong Kong Series.
The rest of the 15-man training squad will remain behind in Apia to train at the Samoa Rugby Unions High Performance Unit Center at Faleata. Pictured with the team are Lt. Governor Lemanu Peleti Mauga and American Samoa Rugby Union Chairman Togiola Tulafono. Both men were at the airport to farewell the team.
