Wildcats Varsity basketball team hits their stride
The Nu’uuli VocTech Wildcats Boys Varsity basketball team have won two straight games and are now sitting in a tie with the Leone Lions in the win column. The wins come at just the right time for the Wildcats as the playoffs are arriving this Thursday for the American Samoa High School Athletic Association (ASHSAA) Boys Varsity Basketball season.
Last Friday, the Wildcats defeated the Faga’itua Vikings by a score of 37-35 and then on the next day, they were able to make it back-to-back wins when they upset the Lions 47-35 in a game where the Wildcats stepped up on the defensive side of the ball in their route to victory.
The good news for the Wildcats is, they are now tied in the win column with the Lions and could possibly make it into the playoffs seeded at #4 which is the last place seed. However, the bad news for the Wildcats is, they are done with their regular season games and are waiting to see if they will advance to the playoffs.
The Lions on the other-hand have one scheduled game left that is today against the winless South Pacific Academy Dolphins. If the Lions win today against the Dolphins, they will have a five game win season which will advance them to the playoffs in that last place spot and end the season for the Wildcats.
The Samoana Sharks who are finished with their regular season games, remain on top in the standings and they are now preparing for the playoffs. Along with the Sharks, the Fa’asao Marist Crusaders and defending champion Tafuna Warriors will also be heading into the playoffs as well. But not before they meet each other one last time to end their regular season.
These two well matched teams of the Crusaders and Warriors, will be playing one another today at the Malaeloa gymnasium with a scheduled starting time of 4:30 p.m. Whichever one of these two teams win, they will be seeded at the #2 spot in the playoffs, while the loser will be seeded at #3.
The latest standings and news of the Boys Junior Varsity Basketball division will be in tomorrow’s Samoa News sports section.
