Samoan born MP becomes NZ Minister of Pacific Affairs

New Zealand's ruling National Party has appointed it's first Minister of Pacific Affairs of Pacific background.

He's Maugakiekie MP Peseta Sam Lotu-Iiga, who also takes over as associate Local Government minister.

He replaces Hekia Parata in the job, and although a minister, he remains outside Cabinet.

Mr Lotu-Iiga, who was born in Samoa but emigrated with his family at the age of three, tells Bruce Hill it's good that a Pacific Island person is in charge of the portfolio.
