Pacific Beat interviews Dr Tusi Avegalio about breadfruit industry flowering in Pacific

A food that's been around the Pacific for thousands of years could be the basis of a new region-wide major industry.

The University of Hawaii Pacific Business Center Program - is promoting the development of a breadfruit industry - not for it's value as fresh fruit, but as a raw material for a flour industry.

Newly developed strains of breadfruit could be ground into gluten-free flour for use locally, and for export to the US, Asia and Europe.

Presenter: Richard Ewart

Speaker: Dr Tusi Avegalio, director, Pacific Business Center Program, University of Hawaii
