Lima faces assault charge

Former Samoan and Auckland rugby player Brian Lima has been charged with assaulting his former partner in Samoa.

Lima, 41, has been charged with causing actual bodily harm and being armed with a dangerous weapon, according to the Samoa Observer.

The paper has published an interview with his alleged victim, Lemalu Sina Retzlaff, who is speaking out against domestic violence.

The alleged assault was reported last Friday and Lima's travel documents have been seized by police.

His case will be first heard in court on January 13.

The hard-tackling Lima played 61 Tests for Manu Samoa between 1991 and 2007.

He is the only player to have appeared in five Rugby World Cups and has been inducted to the IRB Hall of Fame.
