Six Samoa cops finally face assault charges
The Samoa District Court has issued an arrest warrant for one of six officers accused of attacking a man late last year, after he failed to show for his latest Court appearance.
It follows the decision by the Police to finally lay charges against the six officers accused of attacking the man more than a year ago, at Moto’otua on 14th October 2012.
Each officer now faces two charges – one of assault and another for actual bodily harm after the charges were finalised by the office of the Attorney General following a long series of adjournments.
On Monday, however, only five officers made an appearance in court before Judge Mata Tuatagaloa.
A warrant of arrest was issued against Sililo Mafutaga for failing to appear.
Trina Atoa representing Titimaea Nemaia filed a plea of not guilty to both charges, the same application filed by Stephen Fidow’s legal counsel, Semi Leung Wai.
The other three defendants Timoteo Ufagalilo, Uios Tolua and Nuia Sekone were given the chance to find legal counsel without giving any plea to the charges against them.
