Lolo attends Western Governor’s meeting
Governor Lolo Matalasi Moliga left on Monday night for a series of meetings which include the Western Governors Association Annual meeting in Santa Fe, New Mexico to develop strategies to connect Education with the needs of the Economy.
The governor’s executive assistant Iulogologo Joseph Pereira told Samoa News this meeting is paid for by the Western Governors Association, and Governor Lolo is accompanied by DOC Director Keniseli Lafaele, HR Director Sonny Thompson, DYWA Acting Director Pa’u Roy Ausage and the Governor’s Head Security, Commander Alapati Fano according to Iu, who’s also part of the delegation.
Iu told Samoa News this is a WGA Initiative, which is to explore strategies of other States and Territories to address this noted disconnect, and the need to create better networks to ensure that education prepares potential human resources to facilitate implementation of economic development strategies of states and territories.
Training initiatives will also be addressed specifically to meet the needs of the economy and component industries.
According to the WGA website, the WGA Annual Meeting will include substantive discussions on growing jobs and the economy by strengthening the tourism and recreation sectors in the West; expanding exports and international trade; and accelerating responsible energy development. Governors will also discuss connecting kids and families to what we all appreciate about the West — our great outdoors.
The governor will be off island for two weeks, and Samoa News understands Lolo will also have meetings in Hawai’i, but no information has been released by the Governor’s Office about these meetings.
