“PURCHASE THE RIGHT EQUIPMENT”
I heard the Governor talk about his mandate to cut the cost of electricity used by the Government. But I’ve never heard any solutions to the problem because he never sent any instructions to the different departments of what to do or what equipment to purchase to help save energy and money to meet his mandate.
The biggest usage of electricity comes from air conditioners used by the Government. But 95% of those air conditioners are not energy efficient.
They are buying the cheapest air conditioners which are not Energy Star Rated or Energy Saving at all. To make things worse, some air conditioners sold here are still using R22A Freon which is already banned in the U.S. Mainland by EPA. Many other businesses of this type are also misleading the public by selling 50Hz equipment instead of 60Hz.
This practice is misleading and fraudulent. Both the government and consumers are being misled in the name of the cheapest air conditioners. Government departments love the idea of the lowest price to submit to the bid process but pay more for the electricity bill every month.
It has been confirmed and proven that when we use Energy Star Rated and Solar Related Air Conditioners, you can save up to 50% of your electric Bill. We have seen enough of non brand or “NO NAME” Air Conditioners, but Procurement loves them because they are cheap or low in cost
Well, is it lowering the cost of our electric bill? We can’t even pay the ASPA $9.6 million outstanding government electricity bill, and we are not even doing anything to address the situation.
The ANSWER is to start buying Energy Star Rated equipment and start using Solar related equipment. Buy Air Conditioners with a high EER rating and not the cheapest ones you can find. When that mentality changes, we can move ahead to a better future. Our oil costs will never go down, but one way to combat that is to be wise with what we buy. Buy equipment that uses less electricity and saves money in the long run.
Even if ASPA forgives the $9.6million, it will take the government no time to bring the bill up to that amount again. But if we change our mentality by not buying cheap equipment, the whole picture will change for good.
The Governor’s mandate on saving or lowering the cost of power can be met and realized by the next two years.
To do it, we must Save ENERGY and use ENERGY Star Rated equipment. Get the best warranty and maintenance service and DON’T FALL FOR CHEAP because you pay more in the long run!
