Nav-I-Pics filmmakers team up with DYWA
Navigator Islands Pictures and the Department of Youth and Women’s Affairs (DYWA) are collaborating to sign up interested locals who want to be interns and learn from the crew of the territory’s only motion picture production agency.
FEATURE FILM “Seki A Oe”
Navigator Island Pictures is currently in the midst of producing its second feature film — “Seki A Oe: A crazy Samoan love story.” Today is the fourth day of filming and according to company owner Zena Iese, the movie is expected to be released locally on Dec. 13 although a venue is yet to be determined. The next day, Dec. 14, the film will be released worldwide online.
In an interview with Samoa News yesterday, Iese said he is looking for 5-7 locals who are interested in learning more about filmmaking — at no cost. He said a good number of the movie cast are current ASCC students, including those who are between 25 and 35 years old, which is also the target audience age.
“Seki A Oe” is a comedy about a guy named Jack who falls in love with Angel but is rejected. Diana, a faafafine, steps in to help Jack win Angel’s heart by giving him advice on different things, including ways to smooth talk her.
Iese said the film does not feature any sex scenes or explicit material, only a lot of teasing.
Sneak peeks and videos are now available for viewing at http://www.facebook.com/sek aoemovie where fans can also follow the progress of filming.
Navigator Island Pictures is owned by Iese and includes five other members: Ray Tasi, Ararat Afalava, Julian Dominic Taylor-Fahey, Princess Auva’a, and Alexander Zodiacal Jr.
Their first film, “Heart to Heart” which was released earlier this year in July, was the first feature length film written, produced, directed and cast by natives of American Samoa.
The positive publicity and rave reviews from that movie resulted in Iese resigning from his teaching job at Leone High School to pursue filmmaking full time.
