“CONGRESS MUST DO THEIR JOB”
The government shutting down this week is an act of gross irresponsibility on the part of House Republicans who are unwilling to accept the fact that 11 months ago, their vision for the country was rejected by the majority of American voters when Barack Obama was re-elected as President of the United States of America.
A faction of Tea Party extremists is calling the shots in the GOP and these Republicans apparently believe that their ideology is more important than the health of millions of Americans— including us in American Samoa. And they apparently believe it’s more important than the health of the nation’s economy — which will suffer every day that the government remains closed for business.
“The Political posturing must end,” said President Obama. He said, “Let us follow through on passing a bill that reflects the will of the voters and get back to doing the work the American people expect of the Congress.”
Let us hope the Republican members of Congress stop throwing their childish tantrum soon and end their destructive closure of the federal government which will also be felt by those of us in American Samoa.
The American Affordable Health Care Act also known as Obamacare has been debated hundreds of times already in Congress and is now a law of the land. Even the US Supreme Court has declared it constitutional. The Republican Congress knows this and now they’re holding the country hostage by tying Obamacare to the nation’s budget. One has nothing to do with the other. If they want, they can keep debating the merits of the Affordable Health Care Act – but do their job and pass the budget.
God Bless America and American Samoa.
