Samoa teacher gets jail sentence for sex with students
A former government high school teacher in Samoa, Isei Tuiletufuga, has been sentenced to four years in jail after admitting to having sex with four female students.
The girls were 15 and 16 at the time of the offences and students at the school where the defendant was teaching.
The court has heard the incidents took place at the school between March and May this year.
The defendant was charged with one count of carnal knowledge, two counts of indecent and one of attempted indecent assault.
The court has accepted the act of sexual intercourse with one the victim was consensual but says the law is designed not only to protect young girls from predation but also from their own immaturity.
The defendant initially denied the charges but changed his plea to guilty when the matter was called for a hearing.
