Soon no place to eat in town area
The Fast Food part of Tony's Supermarket and Deli, better known around the island as Metro Enterprises, was closed down by the Department of Health on Tuesday, September 3.
A re-open date is not listed on the closure notice posted on the double glass doors. The business is located on the ground floor of the Lumana'i Building in Fagatogo, right next door to the US Post Office.
DOH only closed down the restaurant portion of Metro, while the connecting general merchandise store is still open for business.
Inspectors from the DOH's Environmental Services Division have been busy conducting random inspections around the territory, shutting the doors of restaurants found to be in violation of sanitation standards.
Over the past three weeks, DOH closed down the row of four fast food places across the street from the StarKist Samoa main office building in Atu'u; and then a few days later, they shut down Pinokio, another fast food joint in the same area. In addition to the restaurant, the connecting mini mart was also closed down.
Last week, DOH inspectors hit up Fiafia Restaurant, a popular Chinese restaurant located on the first floor of the Samoa News Building in Fagatogo. The owners and employees there have been busy painting the interior of the establishment, and cleaning up inside and outside, including the food storage areas.
They re-opened yesterday afternoon for business after a followup inspection by DOH.
DOH inspectors are hot on the trail; and business owners and employees are urged to clean up their establishments and make sure everything is sanitary for health and safety reasons.
The message is clear: Keep your businesses clean and up to par, and there will be no interruptions.
