Alphonso Pete Galea'i named acting head of TOFR
Alphonso Pete Galea’i has been appointed as the Acting Director for the Territorial Office of Fiscal Reform (TOFR), effective September 1, 2013. This was announced in a general memorandum issued by Governor Lolo Matalasi Moliga last week, which states that Galea’i shall assume all Directorship responsibilities of the mandated functions of TOFR.
Galea’i told Samoa News that he’s deeply honored and thankful to the Governor for the opportunity to return to work for the government on his cabinet.
“I look forward to working with the TOFR staff in achievement of the Governor’s priority mandate for efficient review and timely completion of TOFR & ASG CIP as well as development of additional funding of projects and activities," he said, adding that he’ll officially start for TOFR on October 8, 2013.
Galea’i has over 30 years of senior management experience in both the public and private sectors — including 17 years as an executive with canneries, which include Tri-Marine Samoa Tuna Processors (STP), Chicken of the Sea (COS) and Van Camp Seafoods (VCS) Samoa Packing Inc.
He served for 18 years with ASG, including seven years as Director of the Department of Commerce, prior to his employment in the private sector.
Galea’i is currently HR Manager for Tri Marine Samoa.
The appointee holds a Masters in Urban and Regional planning from the University of Washington.
He’s a graduate of Samoana High School in the 1970s and also holds a BA in Business Administration.
Samoa News notes he does not need Fono confirmation given that TOFR was transferred under the governor’s office earlier this year.
