Senate endorses $1.1 million supplemental bill
The Senate approved on Wednesday its version of the $1.1 million supplemental appropriation while the House version of the bill was approved Thursday.
The Senate version now goes to the House for their approval with one version to be submitted to the governor, who is expected to sign the measure into law right away to cover the expected overrun of Fono expenditures for the current fiscal year 2013, which officially ends Sept. 30 this year.
Gov. Lolo Matalasi Moliga told his cabinet last Friday that he has informed the Fono leadership that they needed to approve this supplemental to make it legal to pay Fono expenses for the rest of the fiscal year.
Funding source for the supplemental comes from individual and corporate taxes. According to the bill, $500,000 covers personnel costs including lawmakers’ salaries; $260,000 for lawmaker office allowances; $90,000 for contractual services; and $250,000 for electricity.
