LBJ HR head sacked
Prior to being terminated as Director for Human Resources, Anna Hargett informed board members of the LBJ Medical Center Hospital that newly hired Chief Executive Officer Joseph Davis Fleming made a “false statement” on his application for employment with the hospital.
Samoa News understands Mrs Hargett, upon being served her termination letter, was escorted out of the hospital compound by hospital security.
Hargett’s letter was sent last month to hospital board members, with copies sent to Governor Lolo Moliga, Save Liuato Tuitele, Director of Office of Fraud, Prevention and Investigation and Fleming. The letter was leaked to Samoa News yesterday. The subject of the letter was titled “Falsification of Application”.
Hargett in her letter stated one of her duties as Human Resources Director by law is she must follow accepted standards of personnel practice in screening applications and documents submitted to be accurate and truthful.
“I have thoroughly examined the signed application of Mr. Joseph Davis-Fleming and find him in violation of falsifying his application by falsely answering question number 10 on page seven of the application form."
“The question states: Criminal convictions, pending criminal proceedings, or arrest for felonies or misdemeanors to which he answered: No."
“This question should have been answered Yes based on the findings of the second background check made through the Department of Homeland Security,” Hargett wrote.
“Even if it is a misdemeanor one must be truthful in acknowledging it,” she said in her letter, further noting this is a violation of Section 11.0407(E) — wherein the applicant has made a false statement of material fact in his application.
In addition, she wrote, Section 11.0406-Application part D Human Resources Personnel Policy and Administration Manual states: Any person who willfully makes false statement concerning a material matter in any application for employment with LBJ-ASMC Authority shall be terminated once the false information is discovered even after the applicant has been employed by LBJ-ASMC Authority.
She further noted that she could not allow this critical concern to go unaddressed.
The misdemeanors Hargett refers to in her letter, are listed per an attachment. They are misdemeanor traffic violations, with one case in 2003 showing he was on probation for one year for reckless driving and driving while his driver’s license was suspended in 2008, where he pled no contest and was fined $150. A DUI charge was also filed, but dismissed.
Emails and phone messages left by Samoa News for the LBJ CEO, since Monday, August 19th, were not returned as of press time, yesterday — Wednesday, Aug. 21st.
Samoa News understands the Hargett termination is viewed by some LBJ officials as a personal vendetta by Fleming.
