Wrestling coach invites children and parents to free fall classes
The Ca-Boom Wrestling Club is beginning its Fall Youth Program tomorrow — August 21— at its training site located inside the white building located at Veterans Memorial Stadium, on the East Side of the football field, according to Ca-Boom head wrestling coach and president Carl Floor, Sr. He said the program will run for 10 weeks every Wednesday from 5:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. for kids ages 5-12.
“Basically I'm running the program exactly like we do in the States, starting with our youngsters,” said Floor. He explained the program is a basic intro to wrestling and it is for not only the kids but their parents as well.
“Parents are encouraged to attend so that they may get a better understanding of the rules. When parents understand the rules and how wrestling is scored, it is easier for them to support us along with liking and respecting the sport,” he said.
Floor went on to say that wrestling — which is one of the worlds oldest sports — was actually organized with its current point and scoring system in the United States in the early 1800’s and that some of the most famous wrestlers include former President Abraham Lincoln, former President Ulysses S. Grant and Alabama state champion NFL Atlanta Falcons wide receiver Roddy White.
“The program is free to the public and is open to both girls and boys. My daughter, who has been for four years now, will be helping the girls,” said Floor.
Floor’s son CJ was a qualifier in wrestling for the 2012 Summer Olympic games. He is now competing in Mixed Martial Arts where he has record of 2 wins and 0 losses. Floor’s other son Sean, who is a former Gannon University wrestler, was recently in the territory conducting wrestling clinics along with Gannon’s head wrestling coach Don Henry.
The club teaches Jiu Jitsu and self defense classes as well. Floor said that if you want to find out more information about the classes, you can reach him at 770-4954 or contact him on the Ca-Boom WC Facebook site.
