FAGAITUA GRADUATES 137: FUTURE BELONGS TO THOSE WHO PREPARE TODAY
Last Thursday morning on the Eastern side of the island, the Commencement Ceremony for Fagaitua High School took place, with the graduation theme, “The Future Belongs To Those Who Prepare For It Today”. Governor Lolo Matalasi Moliga was present during the ceremony, and encouraged the Viking graduates, saying that the theme for their ceremony is very true and no doubt a very inspiring one.
Master of Ceremonies Vice Principal Sua’ese 'Pooch' Ta’ase presented Fagaitua High School’s graduating class of 2013 to the Director of the Department of Education Dr. Vaitinasa Salu Hunkin Finau, who accepted and confirmed all 137 graduates.
Senior class counselor Jemima T. Nafatali introduced the two top students of Fagaitua High School this year, and taking Valedictorian for the class of 2013 was Eleni Fanene. Named this year’s Vikings class of 2013 Salutatorian was Sarona To’alepai.
Fagaitua High School Scholarship Recipients were Valedictorian Fanene, Salutatorian To’alepai, and Drewan Lemafa.
Collecting this year’s Florence Saulo & Associates Insurance Company Scholarships were Eleni Fanene, Sarona To’alepai, Mellody Parungo, and Lauivaa Chanel Tavai. Tavai was also accepted to Wentworth Military Academy on a full-ride Scholarship.
Former Vikings Football star Vincent Simanu, who played on the Amerika Samoa All Star Football Team has been accepted to St. Mary's University on a Football Scholarship.
Football sensation for the Vikings “Iron Man” Howard Tautu has also been accepted on a football scholarship, to join Snow College in Utah. Tautu was also one of players in the Amerika Samoa All Star Football Team that played in Austin, Texas last year for the Under 19 World Cup of Football.
Awarded with the highest SAT score of 1,500+ were Eleni Fanene, Mellody Parungo, and Patrick Wang, and their awards were donated by Representative Talaimatai Elisara Su’a.
The Rotary Club’s 4 Way Test Award was given to the Fagaitua High School class Valedictorian Fanene.
The Athlete of the Year awards were donated by Representative Fatulegae’e Mauga, and the first was awarded to Gauula Moemoe, a volleyball star for the Vikings and also a member of the American Samoa All Star Volleyball Team. Moemoe took the award for Female Athlete of the Year.
Taking this year's Male Athlete of the Year was Elleryquinn Hisatake, who has been a football sensation for the Vikings since his freshmen year. Hisatake was also a part of the Amerika Samoa All Star Football Team.
The National Honor Society Congressional Awards were awarded to Valedictorian Fanene, Salutatorian To’alepai, Lauiva’a Tavai, Mellody Parungo, Rosalena Aab, Venessa Faasua, Drewan Lemafa, Sitivi Sitafine, Miracle Taiese, Faaninimo Lavata’i, Easter Lagitao, Avemaoe Liaiga, and Faye Lealasola.
Enlisted Viking soldiers who have already sworn into the United States Army were PFC. Mola Tagaloa, PFC. Gabriel Olo, PFC. Faye Lealasola, PFC. Reinelda Ieremia, PFC. Talita Liu, PFC. Miracle Taiese, PFC. Masua Tupa’i, PFC Gordon Luafulu, and PFC. Patrick Wang, who will be joining the United States Marine Corps.
