Samoa: Guilty plea entered in newborn dumping case
A 19-year-old girl appeared before the District Court yesterday accused of dumping her new-born baby, last year.
Fotua’imaua Tuese, of Falealupo and Moamoa, pleaded guilty to one charge of disposing the body on a new-born baby with intent to conceal the fact of birth before Judge Vaepule Vaemoa Va’ai.
The defendant did not have a lawyer. Asked if she wanted a lawyer, Tuese said there was no need since she was willing to accept the consequences of her actions.
According to information revealed before the Court, the incident occurred on 9 December 2012 at Vaitele-tai. After giving birth, Tuese apparently tried to get rid of the baby to avoid others finding out.
