Are there other options for banking in American Samoa?
The people of American Samoa have been given some breathing space after the Bank of Hawaii agreed to keep one of its two branches open in the US territory for another year.
During that time a new banking system will have to be established for the US territory, but the question is what sort of a system will it be?
There are already moves to create a community bank, and the government in Pago Pago has also been in talks with representatives from Zion bank in the American state of Utah. But could there be a third option ? Might another bank in the Pacific be prepared to step in ?
Presenter: Richard Ewart
Speaker: Ian Clyne, Chief Executive Bank South Pacific
