The American Samoa High School Athletic Association (ASHSAA) held its weightlifting championships this past Saturday at the Marist St. Joseph Old Boys Rec. Center. The 1st place winners of each weight class are the ones wearing their 1st place medal awards.

This is the first year that weightlifting has been included into ASHSAA sports. Last Saturday had the Tafuna Warriors finishing with the most 1st place finishers beating out Kanana Fou and Fa’asao Marist High Schools. Pictured with the lifters are members of the Weightlifting Association of American Samoa (WAAS).

This debut season was under the guidance of WAAS lead by the president of the Association, Toetagata Albert Mailo. Toetagata thanked all of the schools and athletes that participated in this year’s debut season and thanked Liliu’s Designs and Wear that donated the refreshments and medals for the athletes.

He also thanked the sponsors, which included GHC Reid & Co. Ltd. and IMPEX. There was also a donation of weights made by the association to each of the schools participating in this year’s debut ASHSAA weightlifting season.
