ASG Treasurer Falema’o M. Pili has invited members of the American Samoa business community to attend a meeting tomorrow with two executives from the Utah-based Zions Bank, which does not plan to open a branch in the territory.
In a public notice issued last Friday, Pili said the meeting is set for 10a.m. at the Governor’s Office Conference Room.
According to the notice, aired on local radio stations,  Zions Bank has “graciously agreed to assist the American Samoa Government and its citizens in dealing with the impending” departure of Bank of Hawai’i.
Additionally, Zions Bank will not be setting up a branch in American Samoa but will be providing services as a “corresponding bank” and American Samoa is very fortunate to have the two executives on island “to discuss our options as we move forward into post-BankOh world..”
The notice encouraged the private sector to attend the meeting with Zions Bank executives Jacob Heugly and John Richards. Samoa News understands that the executives are scheduled to return to Honolulu tomorrow night.
