The Hawaiian Airlines’ (HA) Thursday night flight from Honolulu didn’t arrive in Pago Pago until after 5:30 a.m. yesterday morning.

The airline in a notice to local airport officials early Thursday evening said that due to an “inoperable navigational aid”, the Honolulu to Pago Pago flight would be delayed and was scheduled to arrive in Pago Pago at 5:40 a.m.yesterday.

Samoa News has learned that the “inoperable navigational aid” which needed repaired was at the Pago Pago International Airport.

The incoming flight included staff of the governor’s office, who travelled off-island for meetings, and to accompany Gov. Lolo Matalasi Moliga, who stayed in Honolulu to testify at next Tuesday’s public meeting organized by the U.S. Federal Reserve Bank of San Francisco over Bank of Hawaii’s planned closure in the territory.

Passengers for the return flight to Honolulu were informed that check-in time was 3 a.m. yesterday with a departure time around 8 a.m.

Hawaiian Air currently operates two weekly flights between Honolulu and Pago Pago. They announced Thursday this week that the airline carried 751,091 passengers last month - an increase from 702,890 passengers carried in February last year.

HA is the major sponsor of the annual Samoa News Territorial Spelling Bee competition.
