CNMI House expected to impeach Governor
The House of Representatives in the Northern Marianas is expected to vote today on whether to impeach the Governor, Benigno Fitial.
The Governor is facing 18 charges relating to corruption, neglect of duty and felony.
On Thursday, the legislature’s Special Committee on Impeachment released a report that recommended the House vote to impeach Governor Fitial.
The resolution is expected to pass as 16 out of 20 House members support it.
If at least 14 members vote for the resolution, it will move to the Senate, where the Governor will have the opportunity to defend himself.
