Personal emails not to be used for ASG business
Lt. Gov. Lemanu Peleti Sialega Mauga has ordered that the use of personal e-mail addresses to conduct government business is no longer allowed and for all personnel to contact the Governor’s Office to obtain the appropriate addresses.
In his Jan. 23 memo to heads and deputy directors of ASG departments and agencies, Lemanu said it “has been brought to my attention that ASG employees are conducting government businesses using their personal e-mail address. This practice must cease immediately.”
Effective, on the date of the memo, Lemanu said all electronic correspondence involved in the conduct of ASG business will be via government issued email addresses.
Furthermore, all directors and heads of offices and agencies as well as deputy directors must be online with an ASG issued email account by no later than the close of business Jan. 30 this year, he said.
If personal email accounts have been used to correspond ASG businesses, Lemanu recommends that the recipients of those emails be informed of the newly issued ASG email address “and to stop any further use of your personal account” when dealing with government business, the memo states.
According to the memo, the point of contact for this action is Andrew Berquist at the Governor’s Office. No other details were available yesterday from the governor’s office about the new ASG e-mail address account(s) to be used or what post Berquist holds.
During the previous administration, e-mail addresses were handled by the IT Office. Samoa News understands the office remains under the governor’s office and is headed by Brian Thompson.
