StarKist CEO cancels visit to American Samoa

ShareThis

A planned visit by the interim CEO and President of StarKist, the parent company of StarKist Samoa, has been cancelled. According to Viet Seafood Ltd website Sam Lee was to arrive Thursday night for a four day visit, the main purpose of which was to meet the new governor and lt. governor.

StarKist spokesperson Mary Sestric was quoted saying there's been a change in plans, and Lee will not be making the trip to American Samoa. Ms. Sestric did not respond to the website’s emails seeking the reason for the cancellation of Mr. Lee’s visit.

Production at StarKist Samoa resumed last week at their plant in Satala after a two week shutdown for the Christmas and New Year holidays. Cannery official Taeaoafua Dr. Meki Solomona said turnout on the first day was very good.

Before the shutdown General Manager Butler had indicated that they would be advertising for local employees, with the expectation that employees from Samoa would take extra time off to help rebuild families affected by Cyclone Evan.
