Work begins on new hospital in Samoa
In Samoa, work has begun on a new medical centre at opposite Faleolo international airport.
The facility is being funded by the United States and is costing over one million US and should take a year to finish.
At the ground breaking Prime Minister Tuilaepa Sailele Malielegaoi said the centre will service up to 40,000 people in the A’ana district to Falelatai.
He said expectant mothers will no longer have to go to Apia to access maternity services.
Tuilaepa also added having the centre by the airport ensures the delivery of immediate medical assistance to the multitude of travellers and the general public who utilise the airport.
Last year, landowners of Satapuala set up road blocks on the main road to the airport in protest over taking of what they viewed as their customary land by the government without just compensation.
