Rasmussen alarmed at Cooks allowing purse-seiners

ShareThis

The Cook Islands opposition leader Wilkie Rasmussen has voiced his concern that the government is issuing purse-seine licences.

Mr Rasmussen says he is shocked and feels betrayed by the Minister of Marine Resources Teina Bishop.

He says he thought the minister meant what he said in parliament and in the public media and that the practice is on hold.

Mr Rasmussen has told the Cook Islands News that it appears he has gone ahead by giving permission for this method of fishing to take place in the Cook Islands Ocean.
