Tui Atua reappointed Head of State
Samoa’s Head of State, his highness Tui Atua Tupua Tamasese Efi was reappointed for another five-year-term as Head of State, by Samoa’s Parliament yesterday. The nomination was unopposed.
According to information gathered by Samoa News, the formal nomination of Tui Atua was made by Prime Minister Tuilaepa Sailele Malielegaoi and seconded by Opposition leader Palusalue Faapo II.
The Prime Minister in the House congratulated the Head of State and said whatever shortcomings the Head of State had in his previous term, there is much from which to learn.
He added the reappointment of the Head of State, which was unanimous, goes to show the distinction and respect the Samoa Parliament and Samoa as an Independent State have for the Head of State.
The Opposition Leader, Palusalue Fa’apo told Media in Samoa that he offers his full support and there are issues when party politics come to play “but the stability of the country and politics represented by undivided support for the top post in Government and country, is paramount.”
He thanked the Prime Minister and the ruling Human Rights Protection Party (HRPP) for the foresight and confidence in the incumbent.
Tui Atua was former Prime Minister. He was appointed Head of State in June 2008 after the passing of the longest serving Head of State Malietoa Tanumafili II who served the post as one of the founding joint Heads of State with Tui Atua’s father, Tamasese Meaole who passed away in 1963.
The swearing in of the Head of State Tui Atua will be held next week Wednesday
