Samoa Court dismisses medical Doctor’s appeal against conviction
An appeal by a suspended medical practitioner in Samoa against his conviction on one count of indecent assault has been dismissed.
The defendant, Mamea Dr Emosi Puni, will be sentenced today.
The Supreme Court found the defendant guilty of indecently assaulting a pregnant patient in July 2005.
But the defense lawyers appealed the conviction on the grounds that the court’s verdict is unreasonable and not supported by the evidence.
However the panel of three overseas-based judges upheld the Supreme Court guilty verdict.
The defendant is currently suspended from carrying out his duties as a medical practitioner.
